Best iPhone Apps of 2011
Now with over 300,000 iPhone apps, it’s getting tougher to decide which ones to choose from and which are the best of the best. In the past there iPhone’s were only available through AT&T, but now that they’re available through Verizon more and more folks are wondering what iPhone app’s they should download. Some are just too cool to pass up, while others are an enormous help when traveling, or doing a search for a much needed product. We hope this will at least make it easier to choose.
Just the Coolest Apps
LED-Flashlight
Take it from experienced iPhone owners, don't underestimate the power of a handy flashlight. Many flashlight apps quickly illuminate the iPhone's screen, but the LED Flashlight (free) also taps the iPhone 4's built-in flash for a tighter light beam.
Siri Assistant
Imagine telling a personal assistant to remind you to call your mom, book a taxi, find out what's playing at a movie theatre. That virtual assistant is an iPhone search app called Siri Assistant (free). The app is so good that Apple spent millions to acquire Siri last year.
CNN
The iPhone is a "lean forward" mobile device where you get the latest news, videos, photos and alerts. No major media app has captured this experience better than CNN for iPhone (free).
Shazam
Ever been listening to a song that you love but can’t put your finger on what the name is? Well, the answer is Shazam! Shazam is an iPhone app that identifies the artist and song simply by pointing your iPhone at the source of the music. You can then go to a site to download it and share it with friends or family. In the past, Shazam provided unlimited song tagging; today, the limit is five per month, or unlimited with Shazam Encore ($4.99).
Touch Mouse
Touch Mouse transforms your iPhone into a wireless track pad or mouse, and keyboard that is compatible with your computer. Simply connect your computer to your TV so that your screen is displayed across it then set up Touch Mouse to be configured on either your Mac or your PC and control everything from the comfort of your couch. The text will be shown on your iPhone’s screen as well as your TV so you avoid Repetitive Strain Injury by constantly looking up and down so anything that you type will also be emblazoned across your TV screen! You can write emails, stream videos, browse the internet, order pizzas and have them delivered to your front door. All that you really need to leave the couch for is to go to the toilet! Now, if only there was an app for that…
Qype
Of all the location-based apps, Qype has to be the coolest. This is an app that allows you to find any kind of place you want anywhere in the world, read reviews of any venue that you might be about to enter, check if your friends liked it or not and bookmark all of your favorite places so that you have your own personalized city guide. You can use Qype to ‘Check In’ to places, which will publish your location on social networks such as Facebook so that your buddies will be able to find you. The main benefit of Qype is that you will never again be stuck with a ‘where to go now’ question, seeing as you can have rated and reviewed definitions of any local place in any area. Now that, my friends, is cool.
Talking Carl
Sometimes there’s a strange app that you’re really not sure why it was every created. Enter Talking Carl. Talking Carl is quite a sensation, with its weird, wacky voice, which he uses to imitate anything that you say to him. You can tickle him to hear his guffaw, poke his eye to hear him scream or pinch him to hear his growl. Put down your phone for a bit and Talking Carl will grumble until you return your undivided attention to him. So, he’s not unlike a normal kid really, although much cheaper to look after at only £0.59.
Here are some other awesome apps. Perhaps not as cool but still the best in their respective category.
